NEWRY WOMAN GETS CONDITIONAL DISCHARGE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.

Jan Crawley (43) of St Clare’s Avenue, Newry had claimed Job Seeker’s Allowance of £2,616 while failing to disclose that she was in receipt of an occupational pension. She was given a two year conditional discharge and will have to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 71 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
