TWO CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD AT DOWNPATRICK COURT
Two people were convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court today for obtaining benefits to which they were not entitled.
Shane Haugh (36) of The Lanes, Ballyhornan, Downpatrick had wrongfully cashed Income Support cheques to the value of £73.04. He will have to pay a fine of £75.00 and court costs of £74.00. Mr Haugh has already repaid the money he received from the Social Security Agency.
Paula Keenan (39) of Crew Hill Gardens, Ardglass was given a 12 month conditional discharge for wrongfully cashing Income Support cheques to the value of £390. She will also have to pay court costs of £52.00 and repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 73 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
