STRABANE BENEFIT FRAUDSTERS CONVICTED

A man and a woman were convicted in Strabane Magistrates’ court today for benefit fraud offences.

Andrew Neely (46), of Leckpatrick Gardens, Artigarvan had wrongfully cashed £47.45 Jobseekers Allowance in May 2004. He was given a £200 fine and ordered to pay £28 court costs with 15 weeks to pay.

Mary Doherty (37), of Springhill Park, Strabane had fraudulently cashed Income Support of £381.60 in April 2004. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £40 court costs.

Both are required to repay the money they received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 46 the total number of convictions for benefit fraud this year.
