STRABANE WOMAN GETS CONDITIONAL DISCHARGE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court today for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.

Linda Doherty (52) of Dennett View, Strabane was given a two year conditional discharge for claiming Income Support to the value of £4,407 while failing to disclose her savings. She will also have to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency. The offences occurred between August 2002 and March 2006.

This is the 9th conviction of 2007. Last year 257 convictions were secured by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
