RATHFRILAND MAN FINED FOR COMMITTING BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court today for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.

Michael O’Kane (37) of Cross Heights, Rathfriland was fined £350 for claiming Income Support to the value of £4,514 while working. He will also have to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency. The offences occurred between August 2003 and January 2005.

This is the 8th conviction of 2007. Last year 257 convictions were secured by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
