COALISLAND MAN GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD
A man was convicted at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.
Eugene McGrath (59) of Washing Bay Road, Coalisland was fined £900 and given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years for claiming Income Support to the value of £6,900 while failing to disclose his savings. The offences occurred between July 1999 and May 2003.
Mr McGrath will also have to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.
This is the 6th conviction of 2007. Last year 257 convictions were secured by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
