BANGOR WOMAN GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted at Bangor Magistrates' Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.

Karen Doherty (39) of Abbeymount, Bangor was given 120 hours community service for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £10,819 while working. The offences occurred between April 2002 and February 2004.

Ms Doherty will also have to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.

This is the 220th conviction secured by the Social Security Agency this year in its campaign against benefit fraud.
