BANGOR WOMAN GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR £33,000 BENEFIT FRAUD
A woman was convicted at Bangor Magistrates' Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.
Julie Ann Brown (39) of Carrickmannin Gardens, Bangor was sentenced to 200 hours community service for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £33,821, while failing to declare that she was living with her partner who was working. The offences occurred between May 1998 and December 2003.
Mrs Brown has to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.
This conviction is the 166th secured by the Social Security Agency this year in its campaign against benefit fraud.
