MAN GIVEN SUSPENDED PRISON SENTENCE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates Court today for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.

Edward McCann (43) of Lagmore Downes, Dunmurry was given a two month prison sentence suspended for two years for claiming Income Support and Incapacity Benefit to the value of £5,644 while working. The offences occurred between March 2002 and April 2004.

Mr McCann has repaid the money he received to the Social Security Agency. This conviction is the 157th secured by the Social Security Agency this year in its campaign against benefit fraud.
