BELFAST MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court today for wrongfully cashing giros while claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

Trevor Knocker (32), of Mackey Street, was convicted for falsely obtaining £726.78 between February 2004 and June 2005. He was given a £450 fine and ordered to pay £56 costs. He is also required to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This is the 148th successful prosecution by the Social Security Agency so far this year.
