NEWRY WOMAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted for benefit fraud at Newry Magistrate's Court today.

Lorraine Murray (41), of College Gardens, Newry, was fined £250, together with £31 court costs, for falsely claiming Income Support. The offence occurred in November 2004 and involved cashing a benefit cheque for £300 to which she is not entitled.

This is the 126th successful prosecution by the Social Security Agency for benefit fraud so far this year.
