BALLYMURPHY GETS £96,000 BOOST FROM NEIGHBOURHOOD RENEWAL
The Department for Social Development has today awarded over £96,000 to tackle continuing problems in the Ballymurphy area of west Belfast.
The grant from the Department's Belfast Regeneration Office under the Neighbourhood Renewal Initiative, was announced by Minister of State David Hanson MP, who said:
"I am pleased to see this example of partnership between the Government, public bodies and the community. Neighbourhood Renewal is about ensuring that people who live in deprived areas have access to the best possible services. By working together, we can make this a reality and tackle complex problems. I commend the Upper Springfield/Whiterock Neighbourhood Partnership for leading this process."
The grant award will enable local groups to provide activities for young people and a programme of complementary therapies and counselling for the people of Ballymurphy.

2 Upper Springfield/Whiterock, which contains the Ballymurphy estate, is one of a number of Neighbourhood Renewal areas in Belfast created around the urban areas shown in the official deprivation measures to be among the most disadvantaged 10% of areas in Northern Ireland. The local Neighbourhood Partnership is made up of community, statutory and elected representatives working in the area.
3 The community groups in the Upper Springfield/Whiterock area who will deliver the services are: Mental health/Counselling - Ballymurphy Women's Centre, Corpus Christi Services, Holy Trinity Centre and Springhill Community House; Youth Outreach - Ballymurphy Women's Centre, Terry Enright Foundation, Upper Springfield Development Co Ltd and the West Belfast Area Project.
