MAN GETS CONDITIONAL DISCHARGE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates Court today for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.

Joseph Kearney (37) of Seaview, Ardglass was given a two year conditional discharge for wrongfully cashing an Income Support cheque to the value of £99. The offence occurred during June 2002.

Mr Kearney has to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This conviction is the 110th secured by the Social Security Agency this year in its campaign against benefit fraud.
