WOMAN GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR £39,000 BENEFIT FRAUD
A woman was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.
Agnes Lorraine Green (44) of Shepherds Glen, Londonderry was convicted of claiming Income Support to the value of £39,938 as a single person, while living with her partner who was in full-time employment. She was given a suspended prison sentence of 4 months on each of the 11 offences which occurred between July 1999 and January 2004.
Mrs Green also has to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.
This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 99 successful convictions since the start of the year.
