BELFAST MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD
A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates Court today for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.
Thomas Mathieson (58) of Fernvale Street, Belfast was fined £200 for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £1,611 while failing to disclose savings. The offences occurred between August 2001 and February 2003.
Mr Mathieson also has to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.
This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 95 successful convictions since the start of the year.
