CASTLEWELLAN WOMAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted at Downpatrick Magistrates Court today for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.

Philomena Keenan (22) of St Patrick's Avenue, Castlewellan was fined £225 for claiming Income Support to the value of £663 while working. The offences occurred between May and July 2003.

Miss Keenan has also repaid the money she received to the Social Security Agency.

This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 88 successful convictions since the start of the year.
