LARNE MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Larne Magistrates Court today for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.

Andrew Surgenor (35) of Gardenmore House, Larne was sentenced to one month in prison, suspended for 12 months for wrongfully cashing Income Support cheques to the value of £86.70.

Mr Surgenor has to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 87 successful convictions since the start of the year.
