NEWRY WOMAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD
A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrate's Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.
Joan Finnegan (36) of Oaklands, Newry was fined £200 for claiming Income Support to the value of £6,911 while failing to disclose that she was living with her partner. The offences occurred between March 2003 and November 2004.
Miss Finnegan has to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.
This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 56 successful convictions since the start of the year.
