SOCIAL SECURITY OPERATIONAL NOTE: POWER FAILURE IN CASTLECOURT

A major power cut this morning in CastleCourt has left Social Security Agency staff unable to access their offices.

The Benefit Shop is also closed.

A spokesperson for the Social Security Agency said today:

"Benefit payments administered from CastleCourt are unaffected. Most benefits are now paid by Direct Payment or by cheque and customers should receive their payments as normal. Anyone in urgent need of assistance should contact their nearest Social Security or Jobs and Benefits office.

"The Social Security Agency will review the situation later today and it is hoped that normal services will resume as soon as possible."

NOTES TO EDITORS:

1. Social Security Benefits administered from CastleCourt are:

  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Industrial Injuries Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Carers Allowance
  • Attendance Allowance
