BELFAST MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrate's Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.

Stephen Sands (21) of Crumlin Road, Belfast was fined £100 for claiming Job Seeker's Allowance and a Training Allowance to the value of £537 while failing to declare his savings. The offences occurred between October 2003 and January 2004

Mr Sands has to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.

This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 50 successful convictions since the start of the year.
