NEWRY WOMAN GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR BENEFIT FRAUD
A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrate's Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.
Brigid Tynan (57), of Parkview, Newtowncloghogue, Newry, was sentenced to 60 hours community service for claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit to the value of £26,072 while working in the Irish Republic. The offences occurred between October 1997 and September 2003.
She has to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.
This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 43 successful convictions since the start of the year.
