PORTADOWN MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD
Kevin Smith (31), of Churchill Park, Portadown, was convicted at Craigavon Court today for falsely claiming Income Support.
He was given a two month jail sentence, suspended for two years, for claiming £467 to which he was not entitled during March and April 2003. He is also required to pay back the money to the Social Security Agency.
The case is the 17th prosecution for benefit fraud since January 1. Last year the Social Security Agency successfully prosecuted 196 people for benefit fraud.
