GREYSTEEL MAN CONVICTED OF £6,000 BENEFIT FRAUD
A Greysteel man was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates Court yesterday for obtaining benefits to which he was not entitled.
Joseph McGuinness (57), of Dunlade Road was fined £150 after being found guilty of claiming Income Support of £6,232 while failing to declare savings in excess of the statutory limit. The offences occurred between May 2001 and August 2004.
Mr McGuinness has to repay the money he received to the Social Security Agency.
This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. There have been 12 successful convictions since the start of the year. Last year 196 convictions were achieved.
