PORTAVOGIE WOMAN CONVICTED OF £11,000 BENEFIT FRAUD

A woman was convicted at Newtownards Court today for obtaining benefits to which she was not entitled.

Jane Robinson (58), of Lemons Road, Portavogie, was given a 12 month conditional discharge after being found guilty of wrongfully claiming and receiving Income Support to the value of £11,465, without having declared her savings. The offences occurred between November 1996 and February 2004.

Miss Robinson has to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.

This case is the latest success in the Social Security Agency's campaign against benefit fraud. Last year 196 convictions were achieved.
