LONDONDERRY MAN CONVICTED OF £17,754 BENEFIT FRAUD

A man who claimed benefits without declaring that he was receiving an occupational pension was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Raymond Hart (53), of Broighter Court, Caw, received £9,816 in Income Support and £7,938 in Housing Benefit over a six-year period between January 1998 and March 2004. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay £31 costs.

He is also required by the Social Security Agency to repay the £17,754 that he received.

This is the 195th successful prosecution for benefit fraud taken by the Social Security Agency since 1 January 2005.
