PORTAVOGIE MAN CONVICTED OF £8,209 BENEFIT FRAUD

A Portavogie man who claimed Income Support when he had undeclared capital was convicted of benefit fraud at Newtownards Court today.

John McKeating (61), of Ballyeasborough Road, Portavogie, falsely claimed a total of £8,209. He was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £37 costs. He is also required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money he received.

This is the 191st successful prosecution for benefit fraud to be taken by the Social Security Agency since January 2005.
