SPELLAR WELCOMES £1.3m FACELIFT FOR ENNISKILLEN WATERFRONT
The Minister for Social Development, John Spellar MP, has welcomed the start of work on a £1.3million project that will transform the waterfront adjoining Queen Elizabeth Boulevard and Queen Street in Enniskillen.
The Minister said: "This imaginative project will greatly enhance the appearance of this area of Enniskillen and will improve access to the river for local residents and for visitors to the town."
New and enhanced walkways, landscaping, fishing stands and jetties along this stretch of the River Erne are key features of the transformation which is funded by the Department for Social Development with contributions from Waterways Ireland and the Department for Regional Development. It includes access for disabled people and has been designed in an environmentally sensitive manner.
The project is due to commence immediately and will follow on from the current work in the area being carried out by Water Service. Construction of the Ferguson McIlveen designed scheme will be by a local contracting firm, McGrory Contracts Ltd and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
