NEWTOWNARDS WOMAN CONVICTED OF FRAUD

A Newtownards woman was recently convicted for wrongly claiming benefits from the Social Security Agency.

Ms Toni Reid (20) of Shackleton Walk, Newtownards, was fraudulently in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance and Income Support as well as Housing Benefit. The overpayments amounted to more than £2,000 in total over a period of one year.

In addition to Ms Reid repaying the money, the Magistrate imposed a sentence of 80 hours community service.

This is one of the latest of a series of prosecutions brought by the Agency in its drive to clamp down on benefit fraud.
