AGENCY CONDEMNS ATTACK AT SHANKILL JOBS & BENEFITS OFFICE
Shankill Jobs & Benefits office has temporarily closed its doors, following an attack on their staff. Two staff were injured in the incident, which happened last Friday. The police are currently investigating the circumstances.
A spokesperson for the Social Security Agency said:
"It is regrettable that we have had to close the public office, due to the irresponsible action of a few individuals. This decision was not taken lightly, but the safety of our customers and staff is paramount and this type of dangerous behaviour must be condemned in the strongest terms.
"We have closed the office to the public until this matter is resolved. The Shankill office has a history of maintaining services to the public during difficult times and we are determined to continue to serve the people in the Shankill area despite this incident. Our customers will still receive the money they are entitled to, whether it comes as a girocheque, order book or direct into their bank or building society account. Special arrangements have also been made for people who sign on for JobSeeker’s Allowance; they do not have to sign on for benefit.
"Anyone experiencing difficulties can telephone the office on 028 9025 1456 or contact their nearest Social Security or Jobs & Benefits office. Customers will be notified when services return to normal."
