NEWRY SOCIAL SECURITY SERVICES MAINTAINED DURING INDUSTRIAL ACTION

Special measures have been put in place to ensure Social Security customers continue to receive their benefits, during this week’s strike in Newry Jobs & Benefits office.

A spokesman for the Agency said:

"I would like to reassure the people of Newry that we will maintain a service during this period of industrial action. People will continue to receive the money they are entitled to, whether it comes as a girocheque, order book, or paid directly into their bank or building society accounts. This process will not be affected by the industrial action.

"We have also made special arrangements for people who sign on for JobSeeker’s Allowance. They do not have to sign on during the week of the strike action."

The four-day strike will run from Tuesday 9 March to Friday 12 March 2004. JobSeeker’s do not need to sign on for benefit from Tuesday 9 March to Friday 12 March 2004, signing will resume on Monday 15 March 2004.
