FRAUDSTER CONVICTED AT NEWTOWNARDS MAGISTRATES COURT
Mr Gary Orr, (55), of 30 Abbot Drive, Newtownards was investigated for fraudulently claiming Disability Living Allowance amounting to an overpayment of £1400.
Mr Orr was observed carrying out a range of activities including working at his wife’s stall at a car boot sale in Dundrum. Evidence obtained by investigators clearly demonstrated that he had a greater physical capability than described on his forms to the Social Security Agency.
Mr Orr was initially going to contest the case. However, after reviewing the Agency’s video evidence, the defendant’s solicitor discussed the matter with his client who subsequently changed his plea to guilty.
Mr Orr is required to pay back the £1400 he falsely claimed to the Social Security Agency; he was also fined £300 and ordered to pay the costs of the court.
