BELFAST MAN CONVICTED OF BENEFIT FRAUD

A Belfast man who failed to declare that he was receiving an occupational pension has been convicted for fraudently claiming benefits from the Social Security Agency.

Trevor Donaghy (43), of Kilwarkin Crescent, Belfast, claimed more than £4800 in benefits covering a period of ten years. He was convicted at Belfast’s magistrate’s court.

The defendant claimed that he did not know he needed to declare his occupational pension and therefore neglected to report his change in circumstances to the Agency.

Mr Donaghy was given a sentence of 100-community hours service and ordered to pay the costs of the court. He is also required to pay back the £4800 to the Social Security Agency.
