APPOINTMENT TO THE BOARD OF LAGANSIDE CORPORATION
The Department for Social Development today confirmed the re-appointment of Gordon Irwin, Chief Executive of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners, to the Board of Laganside Corporation.
The re-appointment takes effect from 14 June 2003. Board members receive a salary of £7,815 per annum.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
The Laganside Corporation is an executive Non-Departmental Public Body, established under the Laganside Development (NI) Order 1989, to secure the regeneration of Belfast’s riverside and waterfront areas.
The Laganside Order provides for a Board comprising a Chairperson and up to nine members. One member respectively is appointed from Belfast City Council and Belfast Harbour Commissioners after consultation with these bodies.

Below is brief biographical detail on Mr Irwin.
An accountant by profession, Mr Irwin joined Belfast Harbour Commissioners as Management Accountant in 1970. Through successive promotions, he became General Manager in 1986, a post now entitled Chief Executive.
Mr. Irwin was awarded the OBE in January 1999 for his services to the shipping industry.
