£5MILLION BOOST FOR HOUSING AND REGENERATION

The Minister for Social Development, Nigel Dodds, MLA today announced an additional £5.15m for housing and regeneration. The money was secured by the Minister through bids for extra funding and comes on top of the £4m for housing and the community sectors announced on Friday.

Giving details Mr Dodds said: "If we are to make an impact on the economic and social welfare of local people it is important that a sustained level of funding is maintained for programmes like housing and regeneration.

"The additional money announced today, together with the £4m package announced on Friday, represents a significant investment in local communities, particularly those in greatest need. An additional £3.9m will given to the Housing Executive, with the remaining £1.25m directed into the Department for Social Development's regeneration programme."

Concluding Mr Dodds said: "The Department for Social Development is uniquely placed to help communities in greatest need. This additional funding is a demonstration of my department's commitment to be at the forefront of the drive to target resources at areas of greatest social need within Northern Ireland."
