TWO WEEKEND CLOSURES IN CO ANTRIM

Drivers using the A6 between Belfast and Londonderry should be aware of roadworks during the weekends on 24/25 March and 31 March /1 April.

Roads Service has announced major resurfacing works in Co Antrim on the A6 Moneynick Road between Derryhollagh Lane, at Moneynick Primary School, and the eastern end of the Toome bypass.

The scheme is almost three kilometres in length and, when finished, will complete recent resurfacing works on the Moneynick Road between Randalstown and Toome.

Preparatory drainage and footway works between Derryhollagh Lane and Ballynafey crossroads will begin on Tuesday 20 March. Traffic control, permitting single lane traffic to pass the works will be in daily operation between 0930 and 1600 hours. Delays will be unavoidable and motorists may wish to consider using alternate routes.

Two weekend closures are required for the resurfacing works. Detailed traffic management arrangements are as follows:

Antrim bound traffic will be diverted from Toome along the Staffordstown Road to Randalstown.

Toome bound traffic will be diverted from Ballygrooby roundabout, through Randalstown and via the Portglenone and Rougery Roads to Toome.

The Moneynick Road will be open to two way traffic over Easter.

Parking restrictions will be enforced in Randalstown to assist the flow of additional through traffic.

Roads Service regrets the inconvenience these necessary works will cause to the travelling public and the significant traffic disruption that is likely. Every effort has been made to minimise the duration of the works by carrying them out over two weekends and drivers are requested to consider using alternative routes to avoid the area if at all possible.

Drivers who have to use the route during the works, especially if travelling to the International Airport, should allow extra time for their journeys.
