ROADS SERVICE TO INVEST £1.6MILLION IN MOYLE DISTRICT
Roads Service has announced that £1.6million is being invested in capital and maintenance schemes in the Moyle District Council area this year.
Speaking to Moyle District Council as he delivered the Roads Service Interim Report, Jim Beattie, from Roads Service Northern Division said: "The footway schemes at Cushendall Road, Ballyvoy and Drones Road, Armoy are now complete. The realignment of the bend on the A44 Magheramore Road at Carneatly Corner which will include the erection of a length of safety barrier on the outside of the bend will be completed this financial year.
"Also programmed for this year are the provision of a Zebra Crossing on Castle Street, Ballycastle and gateway signs and coloured surfacing on Coleraine Road, Ballycastle to emphasise the speed limits at the entry to the town.
"Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum and has completed as many schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic. However, most road users appreciate that road improvements can't be done without some disruption to traffic.
"In the last three years some £735 million has been spent on developing and maintaining the road network across Northern Ireland - £495 million on road maintenance and £240 million on capital improvements. This represents a huge investment."
At the meeting he discussed the priorities for road improvements in 2007/ 08. He said: "Subject to availability of land and funding, footway schemes will be carried out at Glenariff Road, Waterfoot and Drumavoley Road, Ballycastle."
