RESURFACING OF A24 SAINTFIELD ROAD, BELFAST

Roads Service has programmed a £500,000 resurfacing scheme on the A24 Saintfield Road to strengthen the carriageway and improve its skidding resistance.

This is due to start on 8 January 2007 over a duration of 12 weeks.

The section of road involved is a 1.3km stretch between Primrose Hill and Ivanhoe Avenue junctions and the work includes the provision of a shared footway/cycleway and installation of pedestrian refuge islands.

Due to the heavy volume of traffic on this arterial route some unavoidable delays and disruptions will occur during the progress of the works. A carefully programmed works operation and traffic management measures should minimise inconvenience to residents, local businesses and the travelling public.

During the morning and evening weekday peak traffic flows two lanes in each direction will be maintained. However traffic restrictions will be in place off peak between the hours 09:30 to 16:30 ( Monday to Friday) and throughout some weekends.

For safety reasons no right turning movements, either to or from public roads and private entrances will be permitted within coned off areas.

On two Sundays it will be necessary to reduce the Saintfield Road to one operational lane for Carryduff-bound traffic. Belfast-bound traffic will be diverted via Carryduff roundabout / Saintfield Rd / Comber Rd / Moneyreagh Rd / Ballygowan Rd / Manse Rd / Cairnshill Rd

It will also be necessary to close Knockbracken Road, Knockbracken Road South and Old Saintfield Road at times as the work progresses and alternative route signing will be in place to assist the travelling public.
