ROADS SERVICE TO INVEST £2 MILLION IN BALLYMONEY

£2 million is being invested in capital and maintenance schemes in the Ballymoney area this year.

Speaking to Ballymoney Borough Council as he delivered the Autumn Report, Jim Beattie, from Roads Service Northern Division said: "The footway schemes on Lough Road Loughguile, Garryduff Road and Bann Road Bendooragh are now complete."

"Other schemes which will be taken forward include the Bridge widening at Bann Road Bendooragh to complement the recently completed footway scheme and a visibility splay improvement scheme at the junction of Townhill Road / Tamlaght Road.

"Also programmed for this year are traffic calming measures on the approaches to Garryduff and Kilmoyle Primary schools under the Safer Routes to Schools programme," said Mr Beattie.

"Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum and has completed as many schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic. However, most road users appreciate that road improvements can't be done without some disruption to traffic," he said.

"In the last three years some £735 million has been spent on developing and maintaining the road network across Northern Ireland - £495 million on road maintenance and £240 million on capital improvements. This represents a huge investment."

At the meeting he discussed the priorities for road improvements in 2007/ 08. He said: "Subject to availability of land and funding, road realignment schemes will be carried out on Kirk Road at Ballyrobin and Ballaghmore."
