ROADS SERVICE TO INVEST OVER £4.5 MILLION IN ARMAGH
Over £4.5 million is being invested in capital and maintenance schemes in the Armagh area this year.
Speaking to Armagh City and District Council as he delivered the Autumn Report, John White, Divisional Manager from Roads Service Southern Division said: "The junction widening and footway improvements to Madden Road, Keady and visibility improvements to the right hand side of the U2801 Farmacraffly Road, Armagh are now complete. We have also carried out a local widening scheme on the U7451 Annaghagh Road and visibility improvements at two corners on Frenchman's Lane. Junction improvements and carriageway realignment on the A29 Newtownhamilton Road/Keady Road junction are progressing well".
Mr White said: "Other schemes which will be taken forward include a footway link along the Annvale Road, Keady and visibility improvements to the left hand side of the U8201 Farmacraffly Road, Armagh.
"Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum and has completed as many schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic. However, most road users appreciate that road improvements can't be done without some disruption to traffic," he said.
"In the last three years some £735 million has been spent on developing and maintaining the road network across Northern Ireland - £495 million on road maintenance and £240 million on capital improvements. This represents a huge investment."
At the meeting Mr White discussed the priorities for road improvements in 2007/08. He said: "Subject to availability of land and funding, road improvement schemes will be carried out on the B3 Castleblaney Road, Derrynoose; at the Drumnanphy Road junction with Clantilew Road; on the B3 Castleblaney Road at Murphys and on the Madden Road at Tullyhugh Park, Tandragee."
