M1/WESTLINK UPDATE
Drivers should be aware of the following traffic arrangements during the current upgrade of the M1/Westlink, including the demolition of Stockman's Lane Bridge.Stockman's Lane Junction
Roads Service and HMC (contractors for the M1/Westlink scheme) would remind motorists of demolition works beginning at Stockman's Lane junction. For two consecutive weekends, from 7pm on Saturday 24th June to 6am on Monday 26th June and from 7pm on Saturday 1st July to 6am on Monday 3rd July, demolition work will be carried out to the bridge that carries the Belfast-bound carriageway of the M1 over Stockman's Lane junction.
Stockman's Lane roundabout will be closed for these two weekends to facilitate the demolition of the bridge. Closure details are as follows:
Weekend of 24th / 25th June
Traffic will not be able to pass under the bridge during demolition eg traffic will not be permitted to travel from Stockman's Lane to Kennedy Way. Instead, traffic will be diverted onto the M1 heading country-bound as far as Black's Road junction, where it will exit and rejoin the M1 at the same junction heading back towards Belfast and then exit at Stockman's Lane junction.
Weekend of 1st / 2nd July
Traffic will not be able to pass under the bridge during demolition eg traffic will not be permitted to travel from Kennedy Way to Stockman's Lane. Instead, traffic will be diverted onto the M1 heading towards Belfast as far as Broadway where it will travel around the roundabout and come back up the M1 heading country-bound and then exit at Stockman's Lane junction.
Royal Victoria Hospital and Belfast City Hospital
Access to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) and Belfast City Hospital will remain unchanged at present. Motorists travelling to RVH from M2 should leave Westlink at Divis Street Junction and follow signs for RVH or carry on along Westlink and access the RVH from this junction. Motorists are reminded that they are still unable to turn right from Westlink onto Grosvenor Road.
Motorists should leave extra time for their journeys due to road works on the M1 motorway and Westlink.
