ROADS SERVICE INVESTS OVER £1 MILLION IN CASTLEREAGH
Over £1 million of capital investment is planned for Castlereagh Borough this year, said the Divisional Roads Manager, Joe Drew.
This level of investment is indicative of the substantial capital investment throughout Northern Ireland, said Mr Drew, at a presentation of the Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service’s Spring Report to Castlereagh Council.
Among the proposals for 2005 / 06 is a road improvement scheme for A55 Milltown Road / Belvoir Road junction. This investment follows significant work in the previous year, including improvements to Manse Road / Glencregagh Road.
Mr Drew highlighted a continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in Castlereagh, including the proposed introduction of safety fences on the Comber Road / Hillsborough Road and the Glen Road / Lower Braniel Road.
He said: "Most road users appreciate that making significant improvements can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. However, Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months, when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours, and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times.
"Roads Service will be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to works. There will be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports."
