ROADS SERVICE INVEST £4.5 MILLION IN DUNGANNON
Investment totalling £4.5 million is planned for Dungannon this year, said Roads Service Divisional Roads Manager, Pat Doherty.
During the delivery of the Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service Spring Report to Dungannon Council, Mr Doherty said: "This level of investment is indicative of the substantial investment throughout Northern Ireland."
Mr Doherty welcomed the continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Dungannon area which include the provision of an undertaking facility on the A5 Omagh Road at Richmond Lane, Ballygawley and the provision of 400m of footway on U1038 Mullaghdun Lane, Dungannon. Mr Doherty also noted the provision of an overtaking lane on the A5 at Blackhill which is currently nearing completion, costing £550,000.
"Most road users appreciate that making this sort of improvement can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. But Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times.
"Roads Service will be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to works. There will be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports,’’ he said.
Mr Doherty also highlighted some of the schemes completed in 2004/05; carriageway widening, drainage and verge provision on B45 Dyan Road and progression of the right turning lanes on the A29 Cookstown Road at Tullycullion Road/Annaginney Road.
