ROADS SERVICE INVEST £4 MILLION IN BANBRIDGE
Investment totalling £4 million is planned for Banbridge this year, said Roads Service Divisional Roads Manager, John White.
Speaking as he delivered the Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service’s Annual Report to Banbridge District Council, Mr White said: "This level of investment is indicative of the substantial capital investment throughout Southern Division and indeed the whole of Northern Ireland.
"The A1 Loughbrickland to Beech Hill scheme is progressing well and is on target to meet its completion date of early 2006. The B2 Hillsborough Road, Dromore grade separated junction and underpass are nearing completion and due for opening in June 2005. The B10 Rathfriland Road, Banbridge grade separated junction landscaping scheme was completed in March 2005."
Mr White welcomed the continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in Banbridge for 2005/06, which includes:
- the B2 Lurgan Road at Ballygowan Road junction;
- the B7 Dromara Road, Ballyroney; and
- the B10 Rathfriland Road at Derrylough Hill junction.
These works will be accompanied by several smaller local transport and safety measures, as well as a programme of resurfacing and surface dressing schemes.
"Most road users appreciate that making this sort of improvement can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. But Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours.
"Roads Service will also be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to works. There will be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports,’’ he said.
Mr White also took the opportunity to highlight some of the schemes completed in 2004/05. Improvement works that have been completed, include:
- The A50/A26 Tullyraine Road, Banbridge at the Bannville Hotel;
- The A50 Castlewellan Road near Corbet;
- B10 Rathfriland Road, May’s Corner at Ballybrick and Glenburn Road junctions and the B2/U4032 Caughey’s Road, Dromore; and
- Traffic-calming schemes have been completed at Ballygowan Road, Banbridge; Banbridge Road, Dromore; Lurgan Road, Dromore and Kinallen village and new traffic signals were installed at Scarva Street/Reilly Street junction.
