ROADS SERVICE INVEST £4.8 MILLION IN FERMANAGH

Investment totalling £4.8 million is planned for Fermanagh this year, Roads Service Divisional Roads Manager Mr Pat Doherty told Fermanagh Council.

"This level of investment is indicative of the substantial investment throughout Northern Ireland," said Mr Doherty, during his delivery of the Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service Spring Report to the Council.

Mr Doherty welcomed the continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Fermanagh area which include:

  1. the proposed road realignment at A509 Mackan Hill;
  2. carriageway widening realignment at B127 Newbridge Road, Lisnaskea; and
  3. the completion of the overtaking lane on the A4 at Maguiresbridge.

"Most road users appreciate that making this sort of improvement can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. But Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times.

"Road Service will be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to works. There will also be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports,’’ he said.

Mr Doherty also took the opportunity to highlight some of the schemes completed in 2004/05:

  1. road realignment at A3 Rabbit Island;
  2. provision of a new border bridge at Clonfad;
  3. completion of traffic calming schemes in Enniskillen and Ballinamallard;
  4. resurfacing works on the A4 Sligo Road, the A32 at Cherrymount/Conerick and the A32 Necarne.
