ROADS SERVICE INVESTS OVER £2.3 MILLION IN COOKSTOWN
Investment totalling £2.3million is planned for Cookstown this year, said Roads Service Divisional Roads Manager, Pat Doherty.
Mr Doherty told Cookstown Council, this level of investment is indicative of the substantial capital investment throughout Northern Ireland, during his delivery of the Department for Regional Development’s Roads Service Spring Report to the Council.
He welcomed the continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Cookstown area, which includes the provision of right turn lanes on the A29 Moneymore Road at its junction with the Cookstown Eastern Distributor and on the A505 Drum Road at its junction with Flo Road.
"Most road users appreciate that this sort of improvement can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum. We are completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months, when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times.
"Road Service will be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information, prior to works. There will be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports.’’
Mr Doherty also took the opportunity to highlight some of the schemes already completed in 2004/05 including:
- the provision of right turn lanes on the A505 Drum Road at its junction with Upper Kildress Road/Glenarny Road;
- an extensive footway at Orritor Road, Cookstown; and
- the completion of the traffic calming scheme at Coagh.
