ROADS SERVICE INVEST OVER £1 MILLION IN LISBURN

Over £1 million of capital investment is planned for the Lisburn area this year.

Divisional Roads Manager, Joe Drew, told Lisburn City Council that this level of investment is indicative of the substantial capital investment throughout Northern Ireland, as he delivered the Roads Service Spring Report to the Council.

Among the proposals for 2005/06 is a road improvement scheme for Leathemstown Road/Quarterland Road, Dundrod and the provision of a roundabout at the Ballymacbrennan Crossroads.

Mr Drew welcomed the continued high level of investment in local transport and safety measures in Lisburn, including proposals for a number of pedestrian measures, safer routes to schools initiatives and the upgrade of M1 Motorway signs at Junction Six.

"Most road users appreciate that making significant improvements can’t be done without some disruption to traffic. However, Roads Service is making every effort to keep disruption to a minimum by completing as many major schemes as possible during the summer months when there is generally less traffic and contractors can take advantage of daylight hours and, where possible, by avoiding peak traffic times,’’ said Mr Drew.

"Roads Service will be making every effort to give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to works. There will be updated information on our website and radio traffic reports.’’
