£300,000 SCHEME FOR MAIN STREET, KIRCUBBIN

DRD Roads Service today announced plans to reconstruct the A20 Main Street, Kircubbin, between Blackhall Street and Roden Street. The roadworks are due to start during week commencing 11 April 2005 and it is estimated that the scheme will cost £300,000.

A Roads Service spokesperson said: "Over the years, the general condition of the roadway has deteriorated. The proposed works will include the reconstruction and resurfacing of the carriageway and footways, kerbing and drainage, where appropriate. Footway build-outs, similar to those already existing, will be created to form parallel parking places and these will also assist pedestrians when crossing the road.

"It is anticipated that the work will take approximately three months to complete, with temporary traffic control in operation from 9.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays.

"Unfortunately it is inevitable that there will be some delays for through traffic and disruption to existing parking arrangements. Roads Service regrets any inconvenience caused to road users.

"However, we would ask motorists to make an allowance for traffic delays during these essential works. We would also ask those people who park to visit local shops/offices, to make use of the available parking spaces at The Green, off Main Street."
