ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ON A32 IRVINESTOWN ROAD

Various improvement and resurfacing works are proposed or currently underway on sections of the A32 Omagh Road from Enniskillen to Irvinestown. These include:

Trory to Conerick

The scheme is expected to cost in excess of £80,000 and involves:

Reconstruction and widening of the existing carriageway to give a 9.3m carriageway width and include a one metre wide refuge strip on each side.

Improved drainage.

This work is being carried out by R J Maxwell & Sons.

Mossfield Straight.

The first stage of works carried out by McFadden Contracts and completed last June is still undergoing settlement. This is being regularly monitored by Road Service to determine when the overburden can be removed and enable carriageway construction to commence over the widened section.

It is hoped that work can commence on this section within the next three months at a cost in the region of £120,000.

A bridge on the Mossfield straight, near the Tullyavy Road, is to be replaced within the next six weeks and will require the road to be closed for up to two weeks. This is expected to cost in the region of £60,000.

Mossfield Stage II

The next section of the ‘Mossfield Straight’ leading up to the corner at Kilgortnaleague is to be widened and filled to allow settlement to take place. Work on this section is expected to commence this summer.

Kilgortnaleague / Sidaire

Survey and design is also underway on a further section of A32 to Whitehill Cross including Kilgortnaleage Bridge.

Necarne, Irvinestown.

Work is expected to commence this week on the section of road from Irvinestown to Necarne where the following improvement work will be carried out:

Increasing the carriageway width to 9.3m which will include a one metre wide refuge strip on each side of the road.

Improved drainage.

Renewal of a culvert.

New surface along this stretch.

The work is to be undertaken by R J Maxwell & Sons at an estimated cost of £150,000 and expected to last four weeks.

Trory Roundabout

Work is continuing on the preliminary aspects of the roundabout construction, but again a period of settlement will be required before the project is completed. This work is being carried out by McFadden Plant.

Mr Pat Doherty, Divisional Roads Manager in Western Division, said the announcement showed Roads Services’ commitment to the A32 Strategic route and he hoped further funding would follow.

He praised those directly affected by the works for their co-operation which allowed the works to proceed and said they would endeavour to keep any inconvenience to a minimum with two way traffic protected during rush-hour.
