£900,000 ROADS MAINTAINANCE BUDGET FOR LISBURN AREA

Over £900,000 is being spent on structural road maintenance in the Lisburn area this year, Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Mr Tom McCourt, revealed when he presented DRD Roads Service’s spring report to Lisburn City Council.

Introducing the report, Mr McCourt said:

"The level of investment in the Lisburn Council area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland, that once again sees Road Service committing some £70m towards structural maintenance. It is worth noting that the vast majority of this money, some 90% in fact, is being earmarked for work on non trunk roads, which form the bulk of the road network in this area.

"It is also worth pointing out that Roads Service has also secured significantly enhanced funding for local transport and safety measures, such as Traffic Calming, Collision Remedial schemes and Minor Works. For example, in the Lisburn Council area, spending on ‘Minor Works’ schemes has increased by 60% since last year."

Mr McCourt also took the opportunity to update councillors on the progress of schemes, carried out during 2004/05, which included improvements to the A26 Moira-Glenavy Road.
