ROADS SERVICE INVESTS OVER £1.1 MILLION IN THE MOYLE AREA
Minister of State, John Spellar MP, today announced over £1.1million investment on structural road maintenance in the Moyle area this year.
The Minister was speaking ahead of DRD Roads Service’s autumn report, presented to Moyle District Council, by Divisional Roads Manager, Dr Andrew Murray.
The Minister said: "The level of investment in the Moyle Council area is indicative of the continued high levels of investment across Northern Ireland that, once again, sees Road Service committing some £70m towards structural maintenance. It is worth noting that the vast majority of this money, some 90% in fact, is being earmarked for work on non-trunk roads, which form the bulk of the road network in this area."
Introducing the report, Dr Murray said: "In the Moyle Council area, Roads Service has earmarked over £1.1million for resurfacing works. Stretches of asphalt resurfacing have been completed on the A2, Whitepark Road, A43, Glenariff Road, B17, Straid Road, B14, Ballyeamon Road and the B15 Gracehill Road."
Dr Murray continued: "It is worth pointing out that Roads Service has also secured significantly enhanced funding for local transport and safety measures and this means that in the Moyle Council area spending on this particular aspect of our work, which includes work on traffic calming, collision remedial and minor works, has increased this year.
"The increase in funding has facilitated the delivery of schemes such as the substantially completed visibility improvements to the roundabout at the junction of Ann Street/Rathlin Road/Quay Road, and the proposed footway on Middlepark Road, between Rosies Road and the caravan park. Significant traffic calming measures, in the form of gateway treatment at a number of villages, have been completed or are nearing completion in Knocknacarry, Cushendall and Mosside."
